In September 2005 Disney opened their fifth Magic Kingdom style theme park and their first park in China.

Located on reclaimed land on Lantau Island, the Penny Bay site has an ongoing strategy of development that will see it adding further attractions over the next few years.

Sister company Serious Staging were appointed to provide the technical support for the opening events. These included receptions at the Hollywood Hotel, Adventureland & Tomorrowland as well as a large concert and dedication ceremony in front of the Castle.

With sets designed by Mark Fischer and lighting by Patrick Woodroffe and Adam Bassett, the biggest challenge facing the team was the fact that the park had to remain open for business as long as possible prior to the opening ceremonies.

Ptarmigan provided project and technical management to Serious Staging, taking a key role in the management team overseeing the technical, logistical and financial management of the project.
